Artist's Comments

A marauding pack of kobolds attack the entrance to a gnome stronghold, but didn't count on a face-off with some of its stalwart little defenders. Graphite on comic paper. For Kenzer & Co.

The detail is amazing. You have talent.

jaw-dropping! by far the best i've seen today.

Such mind-boggling detail! :wow: Very impressive... how on earth do you even start planning a composition such as this? (And should I be keeping an eye out to see when this turns up in a rule book?)

Gnomes so cute...

Why, thank you! I normally started out planning this composition like most of my other pieces, trying to keep things as dynamic as possible. I started with the basic "s"-shaped composition that most comic book covers have, and just worked it up from there.

As for this already popping up in a rule book, it already has! (Hope no one minds a plug, here.) This is the cover for Friend and Foe: Gnomes and Kobolds, published by Kenzer & Co. It's part of a series of books based on traditional racial enemies, and was quite fun to work on, I must say.

It already out? Excellent! As soon as I saw this, I recognised the 3ed style Kobolds (and Gnomes!) so I had to have a closer look. Like I said before, I am just absolutely staggered by the detail! And thank you for the little tip - as a self taught character artist who has spent FAR too long on only the people and not the composition of pictures, I need all the tips I can get my hands on!

Wow this is an amazing piece of art! So much detail. How long did it take to draw?

Thanks! As I recall, it took me about three eight-hour days to finish it.

Wow! You must have a lot of patience. You're welcome too. :D

Very nice! I love the hooded gnome with the sword, he kicks ass
The amount of details and the movement is amazing :#1:
Are you inspired by Todd Lockwood by any chance? Because it reminds me of him

Inspiration comes in many forms, usually just creeping up behind you
